An introduction to our blog, and how it can help you.

Hi, I’m Nikki and welcome to That’s What She Grows’ Blog! I am so excited to have a new way to communicate with everyone about our plant store, our plants and other announcements. I want to start off by sharing a little bit about me so that you can get to know me better as well- I know, I know, it’s all about the plants, BUT we want to know the person behind the success as well, right? Right. Ok!

Originally I’m from Surrey, BC and moved to Sarnia roughly 13 years ago and was shocked to see how vastly different our two cities and provinces are! The people here are so nice that I had to stay! (I’m sure you are wondering what made me move here and that can be a story for another time.)

So getting on to my Sarnia life, I started this business because I LOVE plants, especially rare plants. After flying across the country and shipping plants in from overseas I wanted to make it easier to procure unique plants in Sarnia-Lambton as way to give back to the community. I am so thankful for the love this amazing community has shown us since we opened our doors almost a year ago. There really is something special about Sarnia (though we can all agree it’s not the air quality. That’s what the plants are for! Hah.)

When you come into That’s What She Grows in downtown Sarnia you can expect to step into a little urban jungle and be greeted with a smiling face and sometimes a hairless cat (her name is Peach and she is the cutest little naked gremlin you ever seen, just be careful not to let her outside!).

I have 300 plants in my personal collection and I love sharing all my knowledge with customers. I will never proclaim to be a perfect plant mom and have certainly lost a few over the years (don’t even get me started on calatheas or fiddle leaf figs) so you don’t have to feel guilty sharing your plant horror stories with me, and I can provide some helpful insight on the rest of the plants that I’m amazing with! (Just not Fiddle leaf figs, Lord help me!) I have learned so much through years of trial and error and connecting with other plant enthusiasts and I am happy to share that knowledge with anyone who walks through our doors. I firmly believe that there is a plant for everyone - even if you think you have a black thumb, I got you! - and it gives me great joy to connect people with their perfect plant babies.
